Proactive Community Services Creates a Unique Workforce Development Experience with NICI Impact Grant Support
Proactive Community Services (PCS) has a 20-year legacy of serving South Suburban Cook County’s most vulnerable members, including individuals lacking access to health care, food or stable housing. PCS takes a holistic approach to job placement for these individuals, with programs and services prioritizing "housing first, employment second.”
With a third year of Nicor Illinois Community Investment (NICI) Impact Grant funding, PCS plans to introduce pre-apprenticeships into its employment initiative. This will provide individuals with career exploration opportunities before they enroll in formal training and certification programs. NICI is thrilled to see PCS collaborating with local businesses and vocational schools to create pre-apprenticeship employability workshops, job shadowing and internships.
“We are grateful for NICI’s continued support of Proactive Community Services and our workforce development program, which has empowered low-income individuals in the under-resourced communities of Chicago’s South Suburbs over the past two years. With their commitment to fund a third year, NICI is helping us expand opportunities and build stronger, more resilient futures for those we serve.”
